We've been discussing character analysis in class recently. One crucial part of character analysis is description, particularly physical description. In order to appreciate how skillfully authors are able to describe a character, I want you to practice your own descriptive skills. Pick a shoe out of your closet at home. I want you to describe that shoe in painstakingly thorough detail. Tell me every visible detail you see on that shoe. What shade is each color? Are the laces tied or not? In a bow? How new do they appear? How can you tell? Are there any scuffs? What do the scuffs look like? Is it the left or right shoe? Be over-the-top in your descriptions.
This blog should be at least 150 words.

ReplyDeleteI have a nike N7 5.0 free run. It is a size 14 is US, 13 in UK, 48.5 in EUR, also 32 cm long. Its a duo tone black and white, its a matte black and i bright white. Also on the top of the shoe on the lace holder loops are a sky blue. The sole of the sole is a custom N7 sole. It says N7 is black around a circle, then there are 6 triangles, 3 black facing up, and 3 red facing down. Also like the lace holder loops is sky blue. The nike logo is a silver reflective color. The whole shoe is a mesh felt fabric, but for the most part there is a black paint over it, giving it the matte look. The bottom part, also the white part is very flexible. It is that flexible because there are slits in the shoe in make it bend more making it more of a barefoot running experience. And the bottom of the shoe has black details on the heel and the toe. It has the nike plus sensor too! The laces are tied, bowed, and the color of the laces are black. They are pretty new, i have have them for a few months but have not really worn them. I can tell because old shoes are dirty and this is not that dirty. the only scuffs on the shoes are in the front where some of the black turn it to white. the scuff is kinda white and kinda black. Finally this is the right shoe.

ReplyDeleteThe shoe I have chosen was created by the famous brand, Under Armor. This shoe is about a year old and some of the colors have faded. Starting from the bottom of the shoe, however, you will see mainly bright red lines scribbled everywhere. They are outlined by a white foamy substance that has little dents going across the front outline of the shoe. The back side of the shoe is a red and grey piece of material that looks almost like a ribbon that is used to pull the shoe on or off. The sides of the shoes are decorated with black plastic pieces on black fabric. The top of the shoe is mainly red, grey, and black. On the tip of the shoe you will see a grayish material designed for air to flow. On the very midddle of the shoe you will find a large Under Armor sign outlined in red. The laces are not tied and at the end of the the shoelace, the aglet is slowly falling apart. Inside the shoe is all red yet at the heel there is a giant hole making this left shoe to appear very worn down.
ReplyDeleteThe shoe I have chosen was made by Converse. It is a black canvas shoe that I have had for about a year and a half. I can tell that the shoe is old, because it looks really gross and dirty. It is the right shoe and US women’s size 9. The toe cap is black along with the rest of the shoe. The shoe laces were white, but have changed to a grey color over time. The laces are untied and tucked inside of the shoe. They are very dirty and even have a stain from chili on them. It has twelve black eyelets that run down the top of the shoe, and two on the left side to allow air to flow through the shoe. It also has a black All Star logo on the back of the shoe. The logo is barely readable from wear, and is starting to tear off of the shoe. The rubber sidewall is white with a black stripe running through it. The rubber has turned tan and pink in places from walking in clay. The front of the shoe is also white with a diamond pattern etched in the rubber that is barely even visible now. The shoe has many scuff marks on it, especially in the front and back.
ReplyDeleteOut of all the shoes in my closet, I have picked my Converse All-Stars. It was really hard for me to pick a shoe because I have so many. The outside body and inside body are a snow white color, but the color is more of a vibrant white. The heel strip is also white. My shoes are double-tongued which consist of an outer tongue and an inner tongue. The outer tongue is the same color as the body of the shoe. The inner tongue is a rasberry color. It also has the All-Star logo on the top part of it. The inside lining of the shoe is a light but vibrant blue. The outer tongue lining is the same blue as the inside lining of the shoe. The lateral eyelets are the holes that the shoelace goes through. They are on the same side of the outside body. The eyelets color is a metallic silver. The medial eyelets are on the same side of the inside body. They're a metallic color too. The bumper of the front of the shoe is white, just like the toe cap which sits right on top of it. The sidewall of my shoes are white too. The racing stripe is on the sidewall. The stripe is black. The entire stitching is white except for the inner tongue which is the exact same rasberry color. The only thing left are the laces. The bow-tied laces are a more vibrant white than the shoe body. I couldn't get all the shoe in detail but this is just the main detailed description. There are barely any scruffs which make the shoes look almost brand new. These All-Stars are a very hard shoe to describe when they are so different from many other shoes which is what makes them unique. That's why I love them.
ReplyDeleteThe shoe I have decided to write about in this blog is a Nike Shox Turbo. The shoe is US size 13, UK size 12, Eur. size 47.5. It has an overall mesh fabric that is a dark grey color, with little circular holes all throughout the shoe . It has black, spongy rubber sole on the bottom, with 45 squares and 7 ridges on the bottom side of the front of the shoe. Now as we focus more to the back of the shoe, we see four bright orange shock absorbers. All four shocks have 3 un-even ridges circling them. As we advance to more of the top of the shoe, we see black cotton laces, weaving through the designated holes. Just under the black cotton laces, there is a tongue that is half grey, half black, and has a squishy feel to it. Now we will look inside the shoe. We see an orange shoe insert, that looks very comfortable, but not clean at all. Now the only thing that has not been mentioned yet on this shoe is the Nike Swoosh. The swoosh is a pattern that Nike uses on all of their shoes they make. This one particularly is shiny and black, with an orange border around it. That completes the description of this shoe.
ReplyDeleteI have Air Jordan Flights. I bought these shoes a few weeks ago during the time of the Olympics. The sneakers are bright white, and leather bound. The white leather wraps around the shoe. A dark, deep blue, leather-like trim borders the white leather. A bright, energetic red runs along the blue trim towards the bottom-edge of the shoe. The shoelaces are quite new. I bought them recently at a local Footlocker. I bought them because I wanted a shoelace that would contrast against the deep blue tongue. The tongue has the words "Flight", embroidered towards the top of the tongue. There is a small bright red picture of Michael Jordan about to slam dunk in between the letters 'l' and 'g'. The picture of Michael Jordan represents the 'i' in "Flight". After looking at a few options in the color of shoelaces,I decided on bright red shoelaces in order to contrast against the deep, blue tongue. At the same time, the red shoelaces bring out the red highlights that are on the shoe to make the red color look more vibrant. These Air Jordans are in mint to lightly used shape. On the right shoe, there is a scuff mark on the toe section towards the far front of the shoe. The scuff is very light and is somewhat hard to identify. On the right, lower section of the same shoe, there are two scuffs. One is a very light scuff right above the blue trim towards the bottom of the shoe. It looks like it can be cleaned off very easily. But unfortunately, right below the previous scuff, there is a deep, white scuff that is directly on the blue trim which I'm not going to be able to clean it off. :(
ReplyDeleteThe shoe I chose is a New Balance trail running shoe. I do not know the size because the sticker on the inside of the tongue is worn down. It is blue and gray and it is very faded. I have had it for about three years so it is pretty beat up but it still works fine. The laces are double-knotted and are tied loosely. The bottom is extremely worn and does not really have any tread on it. It has a big N on both sides to let you know it’s a New Balance. It is mostly made up of a mesh material so your foot can breathe. The rest of it is made of rubber and a plastic leathery material. The inside is a soft fabric with some kind of foam in it for cushion; it also has holes worn through it from being worn so much.

ReplyDeleteThe shoe I chose were my toe shoes by Nike. I got them about a half a year ago and pretty much wear them everywhere, especially to my old tree house and to the park. Their pink, black, and gray and have spaces for all my toes, expect the pinky one because its too small... I love them because they are match any outfit. When I go out people usually stare because they are rather odd looking but are one of the most comfortable shoes ever made1 Joe and Jacob like to step on the back of them too and they still seem to hold up. If you ever need running shoes these are light weight and move quickly . The inside is kind of worn out but their very breathable so you feet rarely get hot and stinky.
ReplyDeleteThe shoe I decided to use is made by Nike, and they are called Nike Air Visi Pro 2. It is the right shoe, and the black shoelaces are tied in a bow. They are mainly black with a white sole, and there is a white section on the back with NIKE written across it in black. On the inside edge, there is a white outline of the Nike symbol. While, on the outside edge there is a solid white Nike symbol, and diagonal black lines for about three inches on both sides. Just before the tongue of the shoe is a very small Nike symbol, and at the top of the tongue it says NIKE AIR VISI PRO 2 in white. They look fairly new, but there are a few black scuff marks on the back, it is a little bit dirty on the sole of the shoe and it is bent in several places.
ReplyDeleteThe shoe I have chosen is a black, Starter Pro tennis shoe. It is primarily black, with occasional silver lines towards the rear of it. It has a white tag on the inside of it(on the bottom side of the lace flap) that describes how it is size 11 US, size 45 Europe, and size 30 Mexico. It also describes how it was Made in China and how it is man-made. The laces are long, black, and untied, with a look that it elegant and careless. The toe of the shoe is made of a black, lightweight, and breathable material. The breathable material towards the back of the shoe intertwines with a smooth, black, and sleek leather. The shoe is in impeccable condition, the reason lying in the fact that they were obtained mere days ago from the local shoe merchant. The sole is made of black rubber with a lot of traction; with a clear plastic part that bridges the toe sole and the heel sole. Also on the bottom is a black 11 made into the leather to show how it is size eleven. The leather has clearly inscribed patterns consisting of smooth waves and small crevices. The shoe as a whole is lightweight and extremely stylish, expertly blending well defined silver streaks and bold black material.

ReplyDeleteThe shoe I have chosen is my left Nike volleyball shoe. This shoe is white with a navy Nike sign. It says air on the sides in navy and is also navy on the back of it.On the back there is also a place where you can put your number. The flap of my shoe is mostly white and the top of it is navy with a white Nike sign, also on the flap it says indoor court. My laces are white, and they are also tied in a bow. They appear new because I just got them and I have only wore them a couple of times. There is a couple of scratches on it from sliding on the ground but other than that you can't really tell if there is any or not. On the very bottom of my shoe it is kind of an off white color that goes all the way around the shoe. Also on my shoe are some holes but not literal holes, they are holes with fabric underneath them. On the very far to the left side of my shoe is a navy line circled in white. The inside of my shoe is white and the part where my foot goes is navy with a white Nike sign. There is also some cushion on the sides of inside the shoe where the heal/ankle is.
ReplyDeleteI picked my only pair of shoes, which are Nike 4.0 free runs. This shoe is size 10.5 and made in Vietnam. First I will start with the color. This shoe is very bland and has no bright colors. Every color is a different shade of army green, except for the Nike swoosh which is titanium silver. The inside of the shoe is an olive green that has kind of a neoprene feel. The bottom pad is kind of neon green, but after 4 months of use it’s a dull neon green. The shoe itself is not very rigid and is very flexible. The back has no support and can collapse down. The shoe can bend in half because the bottom has slits which I will cover later. None of this is a bad thing though, because it is super light and is made for running. The bottom is a little bit lighter shade of olive green and is like foamy rubber. The bottom is not one solid piece though, and the whole bottom is in sections. This is so the bottom can flex and bend with the shoe. Above the half inch thick bottom there is a dark green plastic band that goes all the way around the shoe to connect the bottom to the rest of the shoe. IT is tight mesh that is a dark army green. Of that in some areas on the shoe is a thin layer of rubber which makes up the designs on the shoe. The rubber is a dark forest green. On the top of the toes there is a weird pattern that is too hard to describe. On the back there is the same neoprene under the thin rubber layer. The rubber has little cutouts for decoration. I have had these shoes for 4 months and you can see the wear. The mesh has a rip where my right big toes joint/ knuckle is. They are dirty and have small tears and rips on them. The rubber on the bottom is worn down significantly.
ReplyDeleteThe shoes I have chosen are Under Armour Micro G Stealth. They are dark gray, light gray, and red. The laces are dark gray and are very long. They are tied in a double knot. My shoes are almost brand new I have had them since last Wednesday. I can tell they are almost new because I still have the box in which they came. The shoes are red on the inside and on the bottom. The bottom is made of a material called Micro and it is not rubber like most shoes. On the front of the shoe there is a big Under Armour symbol and it is red. The rest of the shoe is mostly dark gray except for a stripe along the bottom and on the back of the shoe. On the side there are little rectangles that start small and then get bigger as they progress along the side of the shoe. My shoes are size ten and of course they were made in China.
ReplyDeleteThe shoe I have chosen is made by Converse All-Stars. They're black and there's a solid white color at the toes. There is also a white star logo on the insides of the feet, and the laces are white. The laces are double-knotted, and the shoes appear old. All around the edges of the shoe are white with a black line through them. You can see blue, orange, and green paint on the white areas (from a paint war), and there's also dirt on the laces. The inner tounge of the shoe says 'All Star' on it. The bottom inside of the shoe also says 'All Star' in black writing on a white background (covered in paint). There is a scuff on the back on the heel of the shoe. It's white on the black part. They are an eight and a half, and this is the left shoe.
ReplyDeleteThe shoe I've chosen is a left shoe and they are my Nike Lunarfly 2. I like these shoes because they are very lightweight and they are great running shoes. They are pink on the bottom and the base color of the shoe is black. The shoelaces are black and are tied in a cute little bow and the inside is neon yellow. the bottom of the inside comes out and its orange with a hole for my Nike+ thingy to go into. They are very comfy shoes and have a big gray swoosh on the side. They're size is 9 in women. And they’re a little dirty but in pretty good shape. I got these shoes about a week before cheer camp and have loved them ever since! They’re a little dirty but they are really nice. And they make me taller!!! :) Yup. So that’s my shoe. The End.
ReplyDeleteI currently have one awesome shoe in my hand. It is my black, Mizuno volleyball shoe, made in Vietnam. I got them last year for my 2012 club season. At the time, it was the latest model out: the Wave Lightning 7’s. The size is women’s 8.5 in the U.S. (a 6 in the UK, a 39 in Europe, a 38 in Brazil, and a 25.0 in Japan). The laces are double knotted because it stays tied when I am playing, and when I’m done, I just slide them off. It is extremely light, which is useful for running. On both sides, there is a shiny, gray Mizuno sign, and everything else is black. Different textures surround the shoe; like some of it is a black, shiny plastic, and the rest is net-looking. On the bottom, you can see that there is some kind of vent; that is helpful because it keeps your feet from sweating. It still looks pretty new, and I can say that they are probably my favorite athletic shoes.
ReplyDeleteThe shoe I have chosen out of my closet is my Asics. I chose the left shoe. They are dark purple and black with some white that looks gray because of how old and worn out they are. The laces wind up through the shoe and are tied in a bow at the top. The laces are black with a white outline. The heal of the shoe has a squishy, purple, gel-like base that allows more bounce and comfort for the person wearing them. The outside of the shoe says, “Gel-fluent 4” in purple and white bubble letters. Also, in white and purple bubble letters, the word “Asics” is printed on the top of the tongue with the Asics symbol next to it. These shoes do not appear new. They are almost a year old. They are dirty. They have few scuff marks, though. Most of the gray that is visible used to be white. There are purple and silver looking stripes that go up, down, and intersect with each other. They go from the shoe laces almost all the way to the back of the shoe. The inside of the shoe is purple with a white label on the tongue that tells me where they were made and all the sizes in the different countries. These shoes were made in China. They are a US 9.5, EURO 41.5, and CM 26. The tag also states that the shoe is made up of synthetic fiber and synthetic leather with a rubber sole. These shoes are very comfortable, light weight, and good for running.
